ABOUT ME....

My name is Michael "Mike" Hurney and I am truly asking for your support.  I want to be your working professional Sheriff in Laclede County.

I have served in public safety for over 15 years and am currently the Chief of Police in Richland.  Furthermore, I am involved in our community as a member of your County Health Board, volunteer in various other local activities, and donate my personal time as a deputy sheriff in other counties (due to the lack of an organized volunteer program here in Laclede County).

I am the son of Esther Hurney (of Laclede County) and Richard P. Hurney (of the State of Virginia).  I have one sister, Kristy Sicard, who is married to Aaron Sicard.  They, along with my niece Madelynn and nephew Austin, reside just east of Lebanon.  Together we attend First Assembly of God Church in Lebanon.  During the week, you'll find Aaron at Lowe Boats; Kristy & my mother are both area school teachers.  My grandmother, Bonnie Graham, a retired nurse, resides just north of Lebanon.  My extended family includes some Eastburns, Weavers, and Presslys.

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Lebanon as a child.  Since then, with the exception of just a few years, I have been a resident of Laclede County and am proud to be a graduate of Lebanon High School.  This is the area that I call my true home and the majority of my friends & family also make their homes here.  My roots go deep in Laclede County and I am happy to be here.

Unfortunately, despite me working hard as a local law enforcement officer in northeast Laclede County, it upsets me every time I read the local newspaper and see another victim reported around Lebanon and Laclede County.  That is why I am ready to step up and serve as your next Laclede County Sheriff.  I am prepared to return the sheriff's department to a responsible, responsive public service agency that works hard to knock down the nonsense in our community.

During my career, serving our area as a police professional, I have strived to maintain the highest level of integrity and am committed to always doing what's right, every step of the way.  I will continue that course as your Sheriff.

Other than that, I'm married to my profession... for better or worse.  My marriage to the job of Sheriff will be a long-term commitment.  I am not here looking for a short-term, retirement job.  This is something I will tackle and work to build for years to come (with your continued support, of course)...

Your support is essential and is appreciated.  If you have any questions, please contact me at any time.

I ask for your support and vote on November 4th, 2008!
